ABOUT US
The
Food Bank is a non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate
hunger through the collection of donated
food and household products and the distribution of
these items to charities and organizations that help
people in need. The
Food Bank works with over 360
organizations in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa to
combat the issue of hunger.
The Food Bank collects food nationally through its affiliation with America’s Second Harvest (a national organization of food banks and food & household product manufacturers). The Food Bank collects food and household products locally from food drives, local food manufacturers, distributors and retailers. This product is distributed to people in need in seventy-seven counties in Nebraska and sixteen counties in Iowa. This distribution is accomplished in the urban areas through three direct programs and over 360 food pantries, meal providers, emergency shelters, child care centers, family service agencies, senior citizen programs and rehab centers. The distribution in the rural parts of the two states is accomplished through three distribution units (Kearney & Norfolk Food Banks in Nebraska, Sioux City Food Bank in Iowa) and one branch location in Sidney, NE.
