MOBILE PANTRIES

The Mobile Food Pantry is a program that enables pantries to extend their services acting as a supplemental food/household service for those in need. The MobilemobileFood Pantry will consist of products that are in excess in the warehouse at the time of delivery. There is no guarantee of specific product being delivered.

How to organize a Mobile Food Pantry:

  • Find a location for distribution. This may be a parking lot at your agency, a school, church parking lot or other easily accessible locations within the community. Make sure you have permission first!
  • Schedule a day and time for delivery with The Food Bank (we like to have a 1 or 2 week notice)
  • Announce the time of distribution to your clients and others in the neighborhood who are in need. Some post it in their local newspaper. We will also post it on our web page of The Food Bank
  • On the day of distribution, have volunteers on-site to help distribute food to people in need. (Most agencies have 6-12 volunteers)
  • After all the food/household is distributed, dispose of all trash and return pallets to The Food Bank.

The Food Bank’s Responsibility:

  • We will bring a straight truck which holds up to 10 pallets of product. Our delivery men will off-load the pallets at the agency’s chosen site. Pallets are set in a row on the ground for immediate distribution, making it easy and efficient for the volunteers.
  • If you choose a different date of distribution, then you will need volunteers to relocate pallets of food until the day of distribution.
  • Just a few examples of products that may be included in your Mobile Food Pantry… Bread, Dairy, Beverage, Household (shampoo/conditioner), produce or miscellaneous groceries.
